Dandara Living
Social Value refers to the wider financial and non-financial positive impacts that our activities have in the local communities where we operate. Creation of Social & Local Value can result in social, environmental and well-being benefits to the local community and forms an integral part of our Sustainability Strategy. We are privileged to help support the work of various organisations that provide vital support and assistance to the local communities where we have developments under construction, in planning or under management.
For a second year, Dandara Living were a pledge matcher in Windmill Hill City Farm’s Big Give Christmas Challenge. Raising a total of £17,089, this year’s campaign exceeded their ambitious target of £15,000 and will enable them to continue to improve wellbeing and mental health in the BS3 area through their supported volunteering programme.
As part of our ongoing partnership with the Clutha Trust in Glasgow, we sponsored their George Square stage at Winterfest 2024, providing 30 young performers with the opportunity to showcase their talents and hosting an impromptu performance by rising Scottish music star, Callum Beattie.
Donations from their performances raised funds for the Clutha Trust’s Power over Poverty campaign, which assists locals with electric payments over the winter months. We also continued to support the Clutha Trust’s campaign to donate pizzas to local foodbanks, charities and other organisations in the local area, as well as hosting a Christmas dinner for locals.
STANWELL FOODBANK COLLECTION
Between November 2024 and March 2025, we are supporting the Stanwell Foodbank in Staines-upon-Thames. With collection points at both our Altrincham office, and our Renshaw’s Yard development site in Staines, Dandara Living has pledged to match all employee donations made. Below is a photo of the team with the third delivery of donations to the foodbank.
STAINES UPON THAMES SNOWMAN TRAIL
Working with Staines BID, we supported the public art initiative, ‘Walking with The Snowman™’. The event, which ran from November to January, saw twelve giant snowmen sculptures decorated by local artists on the theme of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas placed around the town, for residents and visitors to discover via an accessible walking trail.
Pass the Parcel is a wonderful community led initiative to provide Christmas gifts for those in need within the BS3 postcode area of Bristol. This is our third year as a donor, and it was fantastic to see the number of gifts donated to spread cheer in the community.
The First Residents BS3 project is a research project exploring the history of the original community in the area where our Stafford Yard development is currently under construction. It has been fascinating to learn about the lives and trades of the local inhabitants, and events in the neighbourhood over the last 100 years, and we were delighted to be able to support the project team with their research and adding to the BS3 story through providing a meeting space for their sessions.
OPAL is an award-winning, mentor supported school improvement programme, that has been independently proven to sustainably improve the quality of play in British primary schools. Through our ongoing partnership with Southville Primary our Stafford Yard site team volunteered their time to recycle wooden pallets and cable reels from the site, transforming them into benches, tables, and ‘mud kitchens’ for the school, which recently received a Platinum award from OPAL – congratulations! We also hosted a volunteer day at the school with colleagues from Savills, CBRE, JLL and Alder King painting areas of the school with the paint generously donated by Fusion Decorating.
In January, we were delighted to welcome YEP Bristol and Women in Property Southwest on a combined tour of our Stafford Yard development, as part of the wider Bedminster Green regeneration project. A key takeaway from the day was a discussion around the importance of effective communication and engagement with the local community, from planning through to delivery, and how this facilitates the development of more sustainable communities and neighbourhood integration.
A big thank you to Zoe Sharpe and Ewan Robertson at Dandara Living for outlining the evolution of the project, explaining the challenges they faced, and for showing us around.
Henri Scanlon, Chair, YEP Bristol
It is always very humbling for the volunteer organising committee of the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade to see the joy, excitement, and community pride the BEMMYLANTERN Parade brings everyone. The parade tradition of all local politicians leading in the front together, interacting with each other and the crowds, was a powerful display of our #Bristoltogether theme and also testament to the why this area defines the city. The support of sponsors like Dandara Living in delivering this 10-month community project, which remains wholly volunteer-led is invaluable and much appreciated.
Ade Williams MBE, Chair of the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade Organising Committee
The Chiltern Rangers is a community interest company based in High Wycombe which works to enhance habitats in town centres and the countryside through conservation, education and community engagement. Our ongoing partnership with the organisation resulted in us teaming up to work on the transformation of the High Wycombe train station, donating plants to this wonderful regeneration project.
